Hand Care And Home Made Manicure
Our hands have very few oil glands and therefore we must take special care of our hands. Our hands come in contact with chemicals, detergents, and garden dirt etc. that further damages the skin on the hands. Your hands must be well cared for. You should exfoliate your hands and moisturize them regularly. Given below are a few hand care recipes that you can make at home to take special care of your hands.
Hand Care
Are you always on the run with no time to think about pampering yourself at the beauty salon? Here are some steps for a homemade manicure you can try at home, without really burning a hole in your wallet.
Hand Sugar Exfoliant: Mix two tablespoons of oil (vegetable, olive, baby or safflower) with three tablespoons of sugar, it is better if you use the coarse variety. Make a paste and gently rub them on to your hands. Wash off with warm water and dry thoroughly.
To soften coarse and dry hands use this mixture. Mix one tablespoon of lemon juice with a teaspoon of sugar and a little water. Apply this mixture on hand and wash off in about a minute.
Nourishing Hand Cream: Mix 1/3 cup of glycerin and 2/3 cups of rose water. Combine the two by putting them in a bottle and shaking it well. Massage into your hands as often as possible. Store in cool dry place. Glycerin is a humectant that is it attracts moisture to your skin. Therefore it is important to use it to rehydrate your skin.
Recipe Cuticle Softener: Warm a teaspoon of Olive Oil and after your bath push your cuticles back and massage this oil into them. Use the tips of the fingers to massage the oil.
Use these simple home recipes for your hand and you will notice the difference in a few weeks. These products do not have preservatives so their shelf life is about a week.
Steps for a Homemade Manicure:
What you will need-
Warm water
Nail clippers/nail scissor
Orange stick
Moisturizing soap or mild facial cleanser
Moisturizing cream
Towel
Olive oil or lemon juice
Nailbrush and polish
Emery board
How to go about the process:
First you need to remove the old nail polish layer thoroughly. For that, wet a cotton pad with the polish remover and hold this on the nails for a few seconds so that the polish dissolves into the solution. Wipe this away in an outward sweeping motion. This would keep the cuticles clean.
Next, wash your hands with warm water and use a luxurious, moisturizing soap. A mild facial scrub would work wonders for rough hands. Once done, pat hands dry with a soft towel.
When it comes to the length of the nail, try to keep it mid length or short and oval in shape. Long nails are also great but it also depends on how comfortable you are with the same. Clip the nails to a length slightly longer than the one you desire. This is because you need to file the nails to the desired length; use the emery board for this process. Always ensure you keep away from metal files as these can hurt your nails. For filing, begin from the outer corners to the tips. Avoid a back and forth motion. This would only make your nails look jagged.
Soak hands in a bowl full of warm water and add 1-2 tbsp. of lemon juice or olive oil to this. This combination would soften hands and cuticles. Soak your hands for approximately 5-10 minutes. Use a nailbrush to clean the nails.
Once you are through with the cleaning, apply some cuticle cream to the cuticles. You need to massage the entire hand with moisturizing lotion in a circular motion. (Use the thumb of the other hand) A massage would help in the blood circulation.
Use the orange stick and gently push back cuticles. Avoid clipping the cuticles as this might give you an infection. Use a small pair of nail scissors to clip off any hang nails. Excess cream can be wiped off with the help of the nail polish remover.
Now you need to choose your nail color. Dark colors can make your nails appear shorter but are difficult to maintain on a daily basis. If you do not have the time for touch ups then go in for lighter shades since these will match any and every outfit on a regular basis.
The application of the nail polish should always begin from the center of the nail with one stroke. Use two more strokes on the side and do not use more than the required polish on the brush. Allow at least a minute for it to set and then you can begin with your second coat. Use these steps for a homemade manicure on a regular basis to have beautiful and soft hands forever.
Additional Manicure Tips:
If you and your husband use the same set of clippers, you may want to boil them for about five minutes before use. Some men are prone to infection and it is easily passed through a set of clippers.
Check your filing job by running your nails over nylon. They should not snag or rip.
For a faster drying time, dip fingers into icy water about two minutes after you finish your second coat. Air dry.
Prevent nail polish lid from sticking by running a little petroleum jelly around the rim.
Drink lots of water! Especially in the dry winter months, it's easy for nails to chip and break. Make sure you are well hydrated.
Take a multi-vitamin: Pregnant women often comment on the strength of their nails; it is in part due to a regular intake of vitamins. So keep those nutrients coming.
